I am running this serial line full duplex (which is why I'm using this module since the 1734 one doesn't have RTS and CTS and the customer device does use those lines). Assuming that the .RxID output tag on the 5069-SERIAL is analogous to the .NextTransmitRecordNumber output tag on the 1734-232ASC this ...

My first time using the 5069-serial module and I'm looking for some guidance on how to receive/process a long (~5k byte) string in generic ascii mode (RS232 full duplex). I don't have hardware to test with at this time - I won't get my hands on that until final implementation. The string will be sent ...

Has anyone tried this to see if it fixes the Logix Designer issues as well? ------------------------------ Thanks, Mark Will ------------------------------

I'm using a 24-point Micro870 as a Modbus RTU master and trying to track down the latency in the system. I'm sending pretty short messages (~20 bytes including the header) and my PLC scan time is right around 5ms. Based simply on transmission time, a single message (including response) should be <2ms, ...

If you're using the UDFB, you just need to set the drive node number, Channel (2 for the embedded serial), set drive powered to TRUE (we used this to prevent comms from occurring when the drive was e-stopped by dropping the mains power). The UDFB will handle getting the drive into the ready state automatically. ...

It's not that straightforward - that drives uses the IEC 61800-7 state model so there's a sequence you need to go through to get it into a state that's ready to run. The UDFB handles this in lines 113-127 - bits 0-3 step through the state model and you will end up with all 4 of them set when you get ...

The UDFB was from version 21.01 so if you're using an older version it may not import correctly. It was originally written in version 12 (attached) so you should be able to open it if you're using something newer than that. As far as termination resistors, you can probably get away without one if ...

On one of our older product lines we did this all the time (on a Micro850 rather than 820, but the logic should be identical). We connected a 1761-NC01 to the embedded serial port and wired the drive into that (jump terminal A to TERM, wires on A & B to pins 4 & 5 on the RJ45 at the drive). I've attached ...

Based on conversations with Tech support, there is currently no way to determine the status of an implicit connection in version 21 or 21.01 (it's displayed on the Ethernet - Modules screen if you are connected to the controller but not accessible from the program). I'm told there is a plan to get this ...

Thanks for the answers all. Technical support has confirmed that the default behavior in version 21.01 is not to fault the processor on a connection loss. I'm wondering if there's a way to get the connection status with a CIP_GENERIC message from either class 5 (Connection Class) or Class 6 (Connection ...

As someone who uses both Logix (mostly Compact) and Micro800s extensively, here's our thought process on selecting which one to use: Does the customer spec require a Logix controller or a safety PLC? If so, use the Logix controller. Does the application require 2 distinct IP addresses? If so, ...

Joe, Unfortunately the serial module is one of the few that you can't make optional (we have a similar situation with analog modules (2080-IF2) and those you can make optional so the controller will run whether it's there or not). I don't know of any way to build projects via command line or ...

I'm hoping someone on this channel has some experience with implicit messaging on the Micro850E/Micro870E. I don't have a controller to test with right now and the documentation is really thin when it comes to what happens if thing don't quite work as expected. I've tried calling support but they basically ...

There isn't a real clean way to add Ethernet to a Micro830. If this is a new project or swapping out the controller is an option, use a Micro850 - it's the same footprint and I/O layout but has Ethernet built in. This would be your cleanest option. You can just change the controller in CCW and you should ...

You could try the Prosoft PLX31-EIP-MBS modules - we just ordered a few and they were in stock. I think they're replacing the MVI69 modules in the near future if they haven't already. ------------------------------ Mark Will ------------------------------

As far as I know there's no way to do any of that on a Micro850. The Compactlogix controllers can do so but the process is a bit convoluted (there is some sample code for this). ------------------------------ Mark Will Director of Product Development ID Technology ---------------------------- ...
