Do what Philip said. I usually latch a bit which triggers the pop-up. I add an acknowledge button to the pop up and when acknowledged it starts a timer ( usually i set them for 5 to 15 minutes). When the timer times out unlatch you acknowledge button which will let the pop up display bit latch again. ...
